Set on 485 acres surrounded by mountains, the Black Mountain Preserve is a beautiful natural setting of old growth redwoods and oaks with spectacular views of the Pacific ocean. We will offer programs in peace training for non-violent living and environmental sterwardship, as well as health and culture programs. Continuing education units (CEUs) will be available.

The Black Mountain Preserve is near Cazadero and close to urban Santa Rosa (CA), where transportation to the facility is readily accessible.

We made good progress in fixing up one of the main residence buildings, completely cleaned, organized and stocked the kitchen, painted the walls and ceiling of the dining hall, worked on the landscaping of the main area and much more.

There is still much to do, but it won’t be long before we can open the gates. Lon Hill reports that, for the most part, the buildings are structurally sound, so most of the early work is painting, cleaning and general maintenance. There are two people staying at the property, Bethany Wynne and Shelley Swindell. There will be an ongoing list of work to be done, so the property is now available for anyone to come up and help most anytime. If you have some time available, contact Joyce Murphy at jmmurphy@olympus.net or 360, 301-0525 to let them know you are coming.

The cost for this initial upgrade of the facility is $400,000, so we once again are asking for any help you can give. We need your support. Rinpoche asks that you open your heart and your checkbook and give generously to the peace project. We also need volunteer workers to come help and stay up at Black Mountain Preserve. We will provide a bed and food. Any help is needed from painting, scrubbing to landscaping. You can come for the day or spend a week. Any and all help is greatly appreciated so that we can get the property ready for our programs.

We hope you will have a chance soon to see this wonderful property and see the incredible opportunities that lay ahead of us.

Update   [6/24/04]

Dear Friends:

On behalf of Jigme Tromge Rinpoche, we want to bring you up to date on the activities and the plans of the Padmasambhava Peace Institute (PPI). The Padmasambhava Peace Institute is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to bringing peace and balance to all beings and to the environment. This beautiful 485 acres of land is home to various rare and endangered plants and animals and is the only place of its size and kind left in northern California. Our intention is to offer a variety of programs that teach active compassion leading to human and environmental restoration.

WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS!!! We raised $2.3 million by January 2004 when we purchased the Black Mountain Preserve! Our major fundraising event, held in Aprilwas a great success! We had a wonderful Live and Silent Auction, yummy hors d'oeuvres, great wine and a
sumptuous dinner!! Through the generosity of so many donors and helpers, we are happy to report that we raised $17,000 at this event!!!!

PPI needs the sustained generosity of many to maintain and continue with the improvements. Basic monthly expenses for "PPI" are $20,000. These include our debt service for the loans, utilities and insurance costs, as well as support for those volunteers working and living on the property. Our 2004 Capital Campaign is anticipated at $800,000 for remodeling and furnishing our residential and conference facilities.

YOUR HELP WILL ENSURE THIS ENDEAVOR CONTINUES TO BLOOM! WE ARE INVITING EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE! One way to make this happen is to pledge on a monthly basis. Every donation makes a difference no matter how large or small! This is an opportunity to benefit countless beings by helping to bring forth peace and compassion through connecting to this incredible natural setting!

You can also donate your time and talents on the property by signing up to help at a work party or
anytime! We hope you will open your hearts and your"pocketbook" to make a difference with this
extraordinary project.
